For people managing arthritis, reduced lower-body strength, recovering from surgery, or the gradual changes that come with age, a lift recliner makes that everyday transition safer and far less effort. The chair tilts forward at a measured pace to bring the user to a near-standing position, then returns through a range of reclined positions, via simple easy to use controls.

Power Mobility offers an extensive range of lift recliners – also called lift chairs, power lift recliners and riser recliner chairs – selected for build quality, mechanism reliability and long-term comfort. Our range includes models from Theorem, Pride Mobility, Ridgeway and Days, which are available to trial at our Brisbane showroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

A standard recliner is built for comfort – it reclines, but the user still has to push themselves out of it under their own strength. A lift recliner does the same job, but adds a motorised lift function that tilts the chair forward, gently raising the user to a near-standing position. This makes the chair a safer option for those who find standing difficult, who are at risk of falls, or who manage conditions like arthritis, reduced lower-body strength or balance issues. Lift recliners also tend to offer a wider range of reclining positions than standard recliners, with infinite-position and zero-gravity models adding therapeutic value for people who spend long hours in the chair.

A lift recliner supports both day-to-day independence and physical wellbeing. The lift function reduces the strain of standing and lowers the risk of falls during sit-to-stand transitions, which is particularly valuable for older people and those with balance or strength limitations. The recline function adds comfort across long periods of seating and offers genuine therapeutic benefit – improving circulation, redistributing pressure, and managing swelling for users with relevant conditions. Lift recliners also reduce the physical demand on carers and family members assisting with seating, and modern models are designed to blend into a living room or bedroom without looking like a piece of clinical equipment.

A standard lift recliner typically needs 60 to 90 cm of clearance behind the chair when fully reclined, and around 30 to 60 cm of clearance in front for the extended footrest. If room space is tight, a wall-hugger lift recliner is a better option – it reclines forward rather than backwards and needs only 10 to 15 cm of clearance behind the chair. When measuring, take into account nearby walls, skirting boards, power outlets, side tables, and any doors or windows that need to remain operable. Manufacturer specifications will list the exact dimensions for each model.

Yes. The most reliable way to choose the right lift recliner is to sit in one. Visit our Brisbane showroom at Geebung to trial our full range in person – test the lift function, try each recline position, and check the seat size and fabric suit you over an extended sit. Our team is on hand to answer questions and help match the chair to your physical needs, height, weight and space at home. We recommend booking ahead, so we can give you personalised service and uninterrupted time with the chairs. To arrange a visit, contact Power Mobility or call 07 3265 4663.

Yes. Power Mobility operates an in-house service and repair team that supports the lift recliners we supply, including motor repairs, mechanism servicing, electronics and replacement parts. Most lift recliners benefit from an annual service to check the motor and electrical components, with prompt attention if any unusual noise, hesitation or fault develops. Our mobile service team covers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and a range of regional Queensland areas, with onsite repairs also available at our Geebung workshop.
