Alternative Power Controls – Giving Mobility to the Masses

Alternative drive controls for power wheelchairs, such as Eye Gaze, allow the prescribing therapist to give more wheelchair users the freedom of mobility when a standard drive controller is inaccessible. But where do you start? And how do you know that the control provided is the best control for the longevity of that wheelchair prescription? Find out in this informative, hands-on wheelchair training session, where you’ll have the opportunity to try these controls for yourself and get a greater understanding of when to prescribe them.

Power Mobility is proud to partner with Linds Rehab to present this innovative education session for prescribers in the Central Queensland region.

Alternative Power Controls

What you’ll learn in this session

During this wheelchair training workshop, you’ll explore the choices on offer in the world of alternative drive controllers. This interactive session will give you the opportunity to:

  • Learn hands-on assessment techniques and physical considerations to support the choice of controls
  • Discover the vast range of alternative drive controls available including eye tracking and eye control – a technology that makes it possible for computers to know exactly where users are looking. When eye tracking and eye control are combined with speech generating devices, communication opportunities are enabled for individuals with special needs, including those with Motor Neuron Disease (MND), Cerebral Palsy, Rett Syndrome, Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis and Stroke/Aphasia
  • Understand their points of difference in a clinical sense and considerations for application
  • And most importantly, try them for yourself!
